Maja Kastelic (1981) graduated in painting at the Academy of fine arts and design in Ljubljana, where she finished her studies with honors and a book edition of her thesis (by the University’s research institute). She continued her post-graduate studies at the scientific MA studies of Philosophy and Visual Arts Theory at the Faculty of Humanities in Koper. She is an illustrator and an author of a wordless picture book Deček in hiša (A boy and a house), that was published in 2015 at Mladinska knjiga and translated into numerous languages. Illustrations in this story received numerous awards, such as Hinko Smrekar’s Citation at the 11th biennale of Slovene Book Illustration, and her works consequently took part at the elite selection of illustrations at the exhibition of children’s books in Bologna. The picture book was also included in White Ravens Catalogue (a selection of 200 best children and youth books from across the world, which is organized by the Munich International Youth Library). The book also brought Maja the Levstik award and the Kristina Brenkova award for the most wonderful original Slovene picture book.
